Mechanical Engineering

Opportunities and Scope in Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest profession practiced in our society. It is the application of the principles and problem-solving techniques from design to manufacturing to the marketplace for any object. Mechanical engineers analyze their work using the principles of motion, energy, and force—ensuring that designs function safely, effectively, efficiently, and reliably, all at a competitive cost. They make a difference because mechanical engineering careers center on creating technologies to meet human needs. Virtually every product or service in modern life has probably been touched in some way by a mechanical engineer to help humankind. This includes solving today’s problems and creating future solutions in agriculture, mining, manufacturing, distribution, health care, energy, transportation, public welfare, defense, space exploration, climate change, and more.

Value Addition at ABIT

The Department of Mechanical Engineering imparts technical education through experiential learning mode. It provides continuous value creation in terms of knowledge, skill and networking at every step not only during the study period but also after the graduation. It has laboratories equipped with experimental setups and workshop machineries.

  • In first year students use various hand tools to change size, shape and texture of different materials. Then using machineries they create complex shapes and objects.
  • In second year they learn about engineering fundamentals and practical applications through classroom teachings and laboratory works. They visit local industries to get firsthand experience of real world operations. The department provides free training on drawing software like AutoCAD/ Sketchup, etc. so that they can draw any complex object for its realization. There is a Centre of Applied Research (CAR) titled Design and Prototype Development (DPD) which provides platform for inter-disciplinary approach to product development. The students create a number of small products from waste materials.
  • They are introduced to design concept and practice through both academic and hands on activities in third year. These is scope to join the senior students in project works which enhances creative &critical thinking, team work skill and lifelong learning. The students are trained on design and analysis software like Ansys (Simulink), TinkerCAD, etc.
  • In final year the students do projects and learn many engineering skills. The department helps in identifying and executing projects demonstrating engineering concepts and principles. They are encouraged to take internship in different organizations to make them industry ready. The department actively coordinates with placement cell for effective placement of final year students. Regular coaching is provided for higher study entrance examination like GATE, competitive examinations, etc.
  • In addition to above curricular activities the department provides communication and confidence building opportunities to all the students throughout the academic year in continuous basis. It encourages them to participate in number of event, competition, seminar, conference, workshop for overall development. The students are encouraged and handheld to become self-employed through service based business, startup organization.
  • The department maintains active relationship with alumni and helps in finding job or higher study opportunities.
